Huge new iPhone 17e leak details four key upgrades

Apple’s next big event may not take place until early March, but new leaks provide key details about the upcoming iPhone 17e, including some big changes to the budget-focused iPhone.

If notorious leaker Jon Prosser is on the money, Apple could be giving the 17e a more modern look.

The wide notch seen on the iPhone 16e is reportedly being replaced by the Dynamic Island, bringing the entry‑level model in line with Apple’s flagship design language. Colour options are also expanding, with black and white joined by a possible lavender finish.

Beyond design, the leak points to three major hardware upgrades. First, the iPhone 17e is expected to run on a cut‑down version of the A19 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM. This would be a notable jump from the 16e, offering stronger performance for everyday tasks and gaming.

Prosser also claims that Apple is also adding MagSafe support, a sorely missed feature on last year’s 16e. This means compatibility with magnetic accessories and faster wireless charging, up to 15 watts, compared to the 7.5-watt limit on the 16e. For users already invested in Apple’s accessory ecosystem, this could be a significant improvement.

Another improvement is that the front camera is reportedly being upgraded to the same 18MP sensor found in the standard iPhone 17. That’s a step up from the 12MP selfie camera on the 16e, promising sharper images and better video calls.

Other specs are expected to remain unchanged. The iPhone 17e will likely feature a 6.1‑inch 60Hz OLED display, a single 48MP rear camera, and a battery around 4,000mAh. Pricing is also expected to stay the same, with the base 128GB model retailing at $599 in the US.

If the leak proves accurate, Apple’s budget iPhone line is about to get its biggest refresh in years. With Dynamic Island, MagSafe, and a stronger chipset, the 17e could be a compelling option for buyers who want Apple’s latest features without paying flagship prices.
