Meta is preparing for its annual Connect conference, and this year’s spotlight could be on smart glasses with a built-in display. According to the reports, the new device, codenamed Hypernova, marks Meta’s first step into consumer-ready AR glasses. Based on the leaks and rumours, it is expected to be priced around $800 and these are said to be developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the company behind eyewear brands like Ray-Ban and Prada.

Unlike Meta’s earlier Ray-Ban Stories, which mainly worked with voice commands, Hypernova is expected to include a tiny colour display in the right lens. Don’t picture a full virtual world just yet—the display is expected to cover about 20 degrees of view. It’s designed for quick updates like text messages, calls, or notifications, similar to a heads-up display.

According to a report by CNBC, the glasses are also expected to come with built-in support for taking photos, videos, making calls, and even interacting with an AI assistant. However, the added tech means they’ll be slightly bulkier compared to previous versions.

The Neural Wristband And More

Alongside the glasses, Meta is also set to reveal its first neural wristband. Built on technology from CTRL Labs (a company Meta acquired in 2019), the band is said to translate tiny electrical signals from your arm muscles into commands. In simple terms, you could control your glasses or potentially other devices just by moving your fingers slightly, without touching a screen or pressing buttons.

This wristband isn’t just a cool add-on. It’s seen as a foundation for future AR experiences, giving Meta valuable data on how people interact with devices in more natural ways. Developers are also expected to be involved, creating apps and features that could expand what the glasses and wristband can do.

Along with Hypernova and the wristband, Meta is also rumoured to showcase the third generation of its voice-only smart glasses at Connect. These updates suggest that Meta is steadily building out a lineup of wearables, each nudging users closer to a world where digital content blends more seamlessly with daily life.
