I’m kidding, of course. Redoing an entire kitchen just to integrate MagSafe charging-capable countertops is ludicrous — right?

Hold on while I check my savings. Nope, not enough for a reno, but had there been, I would have toyed with the idea.

FreePower, which showcased some of its new whiz-bang charging devices at KBIS 2026, has developed integrated charging devices for kitchen counters, and who wouldn’t want them?

The company works with retailers nationwide to have counters of various materials fitted with devices that create Qi-enabled charging halos right on your kitchen counter. No more searching for chargers, hogging outlets or wading through tangles of cords to charge a device.

FreePower’s integrated countertop charges can be purchased from any of the brand’s retail partners.

I got to see them in action, along with FreePower’s new laptop-charging device at KBIS in Orlando. The charging halo is a glowing ring of light projected through the countertop stone when a human hand touches it. It is used to illuminate the active charging zone, showing users where to place their devices.

I did exactly that, and within seconds, my phone lit up and signaled that it was juicing.

Pretty cool.

An adapter to the countertop-integrated wireless charger lets devices like smartwatches charge.

FreePower has debuted a more powerful version and Qi adapters that allow you to charge laptops and smart watches, in addition to phones.

Prior to 2026, the technology was only capable of charging phones (25 watts), but a more powerful 65-watt version, coupled with a small freestanding adapter, allows the charging of laptops. A second adapter allows the countertops to charge smart watches.

Hands touching the counter show activated charging halos.

Activating the FreePower halos requires no more than a light touch.

FreePower is embedded into countertops during fabrication, and the process is as straightforward as “cutting a sink,” according to brand reps. The quick proprietary mounting system enables quick, easy installation and removal. FreePower can charge any Qi-enabled device, including those from Apple, Samsung and Google.

Prices vary depending on the building partner and the chosen material type.
