iFi Audio has unveiled the GO link 2, a compact, plug-and-play USB digital-to-analog converter (DAC) designed to elevate the audio performance of smartphones and laptops.

This iteration is notably smaller and lighter than its predecessor, offering an immediate enhancement to headphone audio quality.

Maintaining iFi’s reputation for portable audiophile gear, the GO link 2 functions as their smallest DAC to date, weighing a mere 7.8g. Despite its minimal size, iFi Audio has managed to fit an ESS Sabre DAC inside its tiny dimensions, with the DAC capable of processing audio files such as PCM 384kHz and DSD256.

The device incorporates several technical enhancements, such as Dynamic Range Enhancement (DRE) for increased contrast between soft and loud passages. With its THD Compensation feature, distortion has been significantly reduced by 62% which iFi claims results in a clearer, more immersive sound reproduction.

One of the DAC’s standout feature is its S-Balanced output technology. This applies balanced wiring principles to the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, which in the process effectively halves crosstalk. This design ensures maximum performance and minimizes interference or static when using headphones.

The GO link 2 marks the first in this series that is compatible with iFi’s Nexis mobile app. This app enables over-the-air updates and allows users to modify the digital filters for customized sound profiles (currently available for Android devices only).

Internally, the DAC incorporates a Quad DAC+ architecture for enhanced digital-to-analog conversion and specialized clock circuitry to minimize jitter, collectively ensuring ultra-low distortion and precise musical timing.

The output power has been augmented, and both the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and dynamic range (DR) are specified at an impressive 125dB(A), which would indicate high levels of clarity and performance across a broad volume spectrum.

For users seeking superior audio quality without the inconvenience of bulky equipment, the GO link 2 looks to be a significant upgrade on the original, and much like it’s size, it’s available for pittance at £59 / $59 / €59.
