A REVOLUTIONARY “airport of the future” model has been unveiled to the world – and it plans to radically alter the flying experience.

Passengers will board their seats in the middle of the airport lounge, and then cartridges will whizz to the plane and slot themselves inside.

The incredible vision is from Jovari Jetspeed, which promises to slash “millions of hours and billions of wasted dollars” from air travel.

Long queues, cramped aisles and stressful security will all be wiped out and replaced with a seamlessly automated new system, the firm claims.

The central idea is that passengers will no longer have to walk long distances to their gates.

Rather – the plane cabins will come to the passengers.

Mobile cartridges will run right into the airport to pick up passengers from the gates.

And the gates can all be much closer to the main hub, because they will no longer have to spread out to accommodate wide plane wingspans.

Passengers will step into the open-sided cartridges – meaning less awkward clambering – which will close around them and shoot off to the awaiting plane.

Here, the cartridge will insert itself into the open-backed plane fuselage, ready for take-off.

All the movement is designed to be fully autonomous.

The company says that 40 cartridges will take up the same space as 6 planes did – meaning the terminal can take up much less land.

They will wait in a compact circle – with security and check-in arranged in circles around them.

Jovari insists there will still be ample seating at the gates, despite them being more compacted, because there will be far fewer passengers waiting around.

It also reassured those who like to enjoy a more luxurious airport experience that VIP lounges will be available – along with kids’ zones and even pet areas.

After landing, the cartridges will extract themselves and slide on into the centre of the airport.

There will also be cartridges for cargo, which will cut-out the mind-numbing wait as suitcases crawl round a conveyor belt.

Some airports will be equipped with robots which carry luggage directly to driverless taxis and load it into the boot.

And staff will be eliminated wherever possible – including in menial cleaning roles, which will also be completed by bots.

The overhauled system aims to “eliminate thousands of car and train and train trips” to and from airports every day.
