Insta360’s latest pocket-sized camera proves big things really do come in small packages.

The Insta360 X4 Air packs 8K 360-degree video and advanced AI features into a tiny 165g body – making it the company’s lightest 8K camera yet.

Like previous entries in the X Series, the X4 combines performance with a mobility-focused design ideal for your adventures both on land and underwater.

AdaptiveTone automatically balances exposure between the two lenses for more realistic highlights and shadows, and it uses dual 1/1.8-inch sensors for more natural colour and sharper detail.

Additionally, there is a Portrait Mode that adjusts skin tones without the need for editing, and ActiveHDR, which can now achieve 8K30 frames per second, to increase dynamic range in challenging lighting.

A tough beast

It’s also much tougher than it looks. The user-replaceable lenses now have an ultra-hard coating that doubles drop resistance compared to the X4, and the camera remains waterproof up to 15m (49ft). You still get Insta360’s keeping footage steady even when things get chaotic.

Despite its small size, the X4 Air isn’t just for casual clips. It borrows several pro features from the higher-end X5, including replaceable lenses, 8K30fps recording, and a built-in wind guard, but trims the weight for easy, on-the-go use.

Furthermore, smart shooting tools make it even more user-friendly: Gesture and Voice Control allow you to take pictures or record videos hands-free, while Twist to Shoot allows you to start or stop recording with a flick of the selfie stick. Also, the camera has InstaFrame Mode, which allows it to simultaneously record a flat and 360-degree version of a clip. Making this a perfect feature for rapid sharing without sacrificing creative freedom.

Editing is faster, too. AI-powered tools like Auto Edit and FlashCut can be used by the Insta360 app to automatically edit clips, and Insta360+ cloud backup, which offers a free 200GB subscription for a year, makes it simple to sync and share from any device.

Price and release date

Starting at $399.99/£359 for the Standard Bundle or $439.99/£389 for the Starter Bundle, which includes an Invisible Selfie Stick, lens cap, and additional battery, the Insta360 X4 Air is available in graphite black and arctic white. It’s available now.

Compact, smart, and rugged, the X4 Air looks set to be the go-to 360 camera for creators who want flagship features without the flagship bulk.
