A number of Phoronix readers have been inquiring in recent weeks around seeing updated Linux graphics/gaming benchmarks for the Intel Arc B-Series “Battlemage” graphics cards. So for your viewing pleasure today is a look at the Arc Graphics B580 and B570 graphics cards on Ubuntu 25.04 for showing how the graphics performance have improved with the open-source Intel Linux graphics driver stack since launch.

Since the Intel Arc B580 launch in December and the Arc B570 graphics cards in January, the Intel Battlemage Linux graphics driver support has continued to mature quite a lot with new performance optimizations and various features as covered in a number of Phoronix articles over the past several months.

Intel Battlemage on Linux

With the likes of Ubuntu 25.04 and Fedora Workstation 42 it also means now having a very pleasant out-of-the-box experience for the Intel Arc B-Series graphics without having to worry about any updated Linux kernel, firmware, or Mesa bits as well. Modern 2025 Linux distributions should provide a very nice out-of-the-box experience without any extra work involved.

Intel Arc B580 and Arc B570 hardware

For today’s benchmarking is comparing the launch day numbers I found with the Arc B570/B580 compared to where they are now in May 2025. Additionally, the Intel Arc A770 was also re-tested for showing how far its driver support has matured over the same time period. This A770 reference point helps illustrate areas where there are Intel Battlemage specific optimizations or just broader Intel graphics driver optimizations as well as any system performance enhancements during this time from the succeeding updates.

The testing at the end of 2024 was done on Ubuntu 24.10 while using Linux 6.13 Git and Mesa 25.0-devel Git at the time for the necessary Battlemage support. Now for May 2025 we are on Ubuntu 25.04 while using the Linux 6.14 kernel. Mesa 25.2-devel Git was used for the Intel Iris Gallium3D (OpenGL) and Intel ANV Vulkan driver support. For easy reproducibility the Mesa 25.2-devel Git state was obtained from the ubuntu/mesaaco PPA.

The same Intel Core Ultra 9 285K Arrow Lake system hardware was used for all of the launch testing and then now this fresh testing for the Arc A770, B570, and B580 graphics cards as of May 2025.
