As Apple gears up to release “F1 The Movie” for streaming on Apple TV, some are already looking ahead to a sequel. Director Joseph Kosinski included. Here’s the latest.

Everybody involved wants a new F1 movie

In case you’ve been holding out on watching F1 The Movie as part of the Apple TV catalogue, you’ve still got a few days to go. The movie is scheduled to premiere for streaming on December 12, following its August launch for purchase or rental.

But as the film heads into its wider streaming release, an increasing number of fans are already wondering: will there be a sequel?

Variety asked director Joseph Kosinski about it, and he didn’t exactly shy away:

Here’s what Tim Cook told Variety when he was asked about it at the Emmys:

“I don’t know, but it’s definitely something that’s being talked about. And it’s been such a huge summer blockbuster for us, we’re so proud of it. The talent involved in that show are just next-level. And Brad did such a wonderful job acting it. We’re super proud of it and can’t wait to bring it to the service”

Back to Kosinski, when asked the same question by Deadline last Saturday, he said:

“I personally would love to see what other adventures Sonny Hayes has in his future (…) I’d love to see what’s happened with the APXGP team and Joshua Pearce, and see how his career goes, so I would love to be able to tell another chapter in that story and it’s something we just started kinda dreaming about and it’s fun to be in this stage of imagining what that might be.”

While it is not exactly a big surprise that all parties involved are interested in working on a sequel for Apple’s biggest blockbuster to date (especially considering Apple’s recent F1 streaming rights deal in the US), it’s still reassuring for fans to hear both Cook and Kosinski speak so openly about it.

Would you watch an F1 The Movie sequel? Let us know in the comments.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking and Silo.
