ITV is launching a brand new TV channel with a twist – but you won’t find it by flicking through the channels on your telly in the traditional way.

Days after launching a dedicated Christmas channel and a second filled with classic shows to celebrate ITV’s 70th birthday, the broadcaster has another up its sleeve.

And they’re all accessible via the company’s streaming service, ITVX.

This next step is one that science lovers will enjoy watching in particular.

From next week, viewers will be able to find Space Live on ITVX.

Bosses say the new channel will give “millions of people the chance to see Earth exactly as astronauts see it”.

Space Live will show “continuous” live 4K views of Earth from orbit.

This includes real-time footage captured from the International Space Station (ISS), providing breathtaking horizon shots to detailed imagery spanning over 240km of terrain below.

“I can’t be alone in occasionally staring up into space and wondering what’s going on up at the International Space Station and what their view of us down on Earth is looking like,” said Anna Lowman, Editorial Manager for ITVX: Live, FAST Channels & YouTube.

“To be able to live stream that view from Space continuously, on ITVX for free, is very exciting.

“Coming from a family of curious stargazers, I’m really proud we’re part of this innovative partnership with Sen and Zoo 55.”

The channel will start to appear on ITVX from October 15.

UK Netflix Users Warned: £1,000 Fine for Watching Live Events Without a TV Licence

There are plans to launch it on Samsung TV Plus and other streaming partners in the future.

The project has been spearheaded by Zoo 55, ITV Studios’ digital content label, in collaboration with British space media company Sen.

Get more quality TV for free

By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor

If you’re tired of paying out on several streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ then there are a growing number of free alternatives around.

While many of these alternatives have been filled with obscure content, more big names like Sky have got on board in recent years offering some quality stuff, which is largely archive but still entertaining.

As well as UKTV, Sony and 5 are among the other players getting involved.

If you haven’t already, give Pluto TV a go, it’s available on pretty much all devices including Fire TV Sticks.

On there you’ll find channels from MTV, with Catfish and Geordie Shore.

Some of the classics are real gems too – I found myself watching long-forgotten episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch the other day.
