Linus Torvalds just released Linux 6.17-rc7 as the last planned release candidate of the in-development Linux 6.17 kernel that is expected to go final next weekend.

Merged this week as part of the fixes for Linux 6.17 were a new ACPI ID in the AMD PMF driver for an “upcoming platform” without any further details on that upcoming AMD hardware now seeing Platform Management Framework support. Also as part of this week’s x86 platform driver updates was adding support for the AOKZOE A1X and OneXPlayer X1Pro EVA-02 handhelds to the OneXPlayer EC “OXPEC” driver for supporting thermal monitoring/controls for those gaming handhelds.

Also on the AMD side is AMDKFD compute driver improvements for s0ix standby handling that worked their way into fixes for the current Linux 6.17 cycle.

Overall though there weren’t too many notable fixes this week to land for Linux 6.17-rc7.

Linux 6.17-rc7 Git tag

Linus Torvalds wrote in the 6.17-rc7 announcement:

“Normal week, and unless something [odd] happens this is the last rc before 6.17.

Mixed random small changes all over with nothing really jumping out. It’s all fairly spread out, with no obvious big concentration of fixes anywhere.

There’s obviously the usual driver side (gpu, networking and sound being most of it), and the rest is all fairly random: selftests, arch fixes (mostly kvm-related), filesystems (mostly smb) and some core kernel, mm and net code.”

So look for Linux 6.17 hopefully making its stable debut next Sunday. Linux 6.17 is bringing many exciting improvements and new features.
