According to Nikkei Asia, due to the ongoing shortage of memory chips and surging prices, PC manufacturers including HP, Dell, Acer, and Asus are for the first time considering sourcing DRAM chips from Chinese suppliers. Driven by the AI boom, global memory chip supply has tightened significantly and prices have soared. Major international players such as Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix have prioritized production capacity for AI customers, leaving the PC and broader consumer electronics markets under pressure.

HP, Dell, Acer, and Asus are closely monitoring DRAM market conditions. If supply remains tight and prices continue to rise through mid-year, they may begin sourcing China-made DRAM chips for the first time, primarily for products sold in non-US markets. Citing people familiar with the matter, the report said HP and Dell have already started certifying products from Chinese DRAM suppliers to expand their sourcing options. [Icsmart, in Chinese]
