The AI is investing more and more facets of our lives, and Meta is currently testing unprecedented feature, with chatbots capable of spontaneously initiating private conversations with users on Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.
“CC is okay?”
If we believe in internal documents to the company revealed by Business Insiderthe company would have been collaborating for a few months with the American company Alignerr, to develop chatbots capable of sending private messages that are not asked for users, as part of an experiment baptized Project Omni.
Concretely, it will suffice for a first interaction with a chatbot via the AI Studio de Meta so that it can, after a certain delay, relaunch the user directly in his messaging. These messages will be based on previous exchanges to offer personalized reminders, like what the AI replika already proposed with which we had started a virtual relationship last year.
A little more proximity
The objective displayed by Meta is twofold: enriching the user experience by facilitating more personal interactions with AI, and stimulating engagement on its platforms, in a context where user loyalty becomes a major strategic issue. If the promise is beautiful (or disturbing), inevitably asks the question of personal data, and their exploitation.
Aware of the risk, Meta has laid strict limits on the initiative of her chatbots. According to internal guidelines, a chatbot can only relaunch a user if the latter has already exchanged at least five messages with him in the past two weeks. In the absence of an answer, the bot will not insist. If the user responds, a new recovery will only be possible after two weeks. Meta also promises that chatbots will have to avoid sensitive or controversial subjects, unless the user approaches them himself.
A gradual deployment and under surveillance
For the time being, the functionality is in the test phase, mainly in the United States. Its large -scale deployment will depend on the reception reserved by users and regulatory adjustments, especially in Europe where data protection remains a central issue.
Meta, which aims to generate several billion dollars in revenues thanks to its IA products by 2035, is advancing carefully, aware that the balance between innovation, respect for privacy and social acceptability will be decisive for the future of her chatbots. The fact remains that the arrival of these chatbots capable of spontaneously send you DM on Facebook or WhatsApp marks a new step in the automation of digital interactions.
