Microsoft Copilot DOWN as AI is crippled by outage affecting users across UK

MICROSOFT Copilot experienced an outage, impacting users across the UK and Europe.

The tech firm confirmed an “unexpected increase in traffic” was to blame for the service going down.

Copilot is an AI-powered assistant that helps workers with data analysis and other tasks.

In a statement, Microsoft said: “We’re investigating an issue in which users in the United Kingdom may be unable to access Microsoft Copilot, or experience degraded functionality with some features.”

The firm added: “Upon an initial investigation, we’ve identified this issue may impact any user within the United Kingdom, or Europe, attempting to access Microsoft Copilot. Indications from service monitoring telemetry suggest an unexpected increase in traffic has resulted in impact.

“We’re continuing to investigate further to determine the next steps required.”

Over 1,000 users reported an issue with Microsoft Copilot on DownDetector in the wake of the outage.

The system was left flickering on and off with users being met with the message: “Well, that wasn’t supposed to happen”.

Other messages had the AI say: “Sorry, I wasn’t able to respond to that.”

And the bot said it could not connect to Microsoft’s server that powers the AI.

The AI assistant is mainly used by people who work on Office 365.

And it previously went down in November when users reported they could perform any file actions.
