Mission has launched its first-ever network music streamer in the 778S, bringing the brand’s signature hi-fi performance to streaming in a compact, versatile package.
Designed in collaboration with streaming specialist Silent Angel, the 778S is built to complement Mission’s award-winning speakers and the popular 778X amplifier. It also works seamlessly with other audio setups.
Despite measuring just 236 × 98 × 357mm, the 778S packs in a high-performance DAC, robust connectivity, and a user-friendly interface. Its front panel is symmetrically laid out with volume and select rotary controls flanking a dimmable OLED display. The design remains simple but functional.
Connectivity is broad: dual-band Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, USB-C, and two USB-A ports support network streaming and PC/Mac connections. Meanwhile, balanced XLR and single-ended RCA outputs cover analogue setups. Digital outputs include coaxial, optical, and USB-A. There’s even a 6.35mm headphone output for standalone use, making it a flexible option for both stereo systems and personal listening.

At the heart of the 778S is a customised Silent Angel streaming engine, powered by ARM Cortex-A72 and A53 multi-core CPUs. The streamer supports Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, TuneIn, and AirPlay 2. In addition, there is full UPnP/DLNA compliance and Roon Ready certification. This ensures compatibility with a wide range of networks and apps.
Mission has paired the streaming engine with its own proprietary electronics, including an ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M DAC, precision clocking, and noise-isolated power supplies. This combination provides detailed, dynamic sound with a wide soundstage, low distortion, and precise timing. Meanwhile, the onboard headphone amp delivers consistent performance for high-quality listening on headphones.
The 778S also supports hi-res audio, including PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD up to DSD512, with optional upsampling and five DAC reconstruction filters for personalised tuning. According to Mission, this makes the 778S’s performance superior to many sub-£500 streamers whilst remaining under £1,000.
The Mission 778S is available now in black or silver for £799, offering a compact, flexible, and high-quality streaming solution for listeners looking to step up from entry-level systems without breaking the bank.
