Momenta, a leading Chinese supplier of assisted and autonomous driving solutions, said on April 24 that it has signed contracts to supply more than 130 car models with its assisted driving technologies, touting a growing list of clients including General Motors, SAIC-Volkswagen, and Toyota. The company has installed its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features to 26 models as of last year and expects there to be 300,000 cars on the road using its technology by the end of May, according to co-founder and chief executive Cao Xudong.

“We are the first Chinese company that has successfully deployed assisted driving technologies, such as highway and city navigation features, across multiple countries worldwide, including Germany, France, and Japan,” Cao told reporters during a press conference at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show (our translation).

Cao also revealed plans to later this year launch a new artificial intelligence model, known as an end-to-end neural network, which could create more advanced simulation environments that allow vehicles to teach themselves to drive. The Chinese startup has been making its autonomous driving system without using expensive high-definition maps, which is a relatively time- and cost-efficient way of operating self-driving cars at scale.

In addition, Momenta will start operating fully driverless vehicles for passenger transport by the end of this year in the eastern Chinese city of Shanghai, where SAIC, one of its major investors, is headquartered. This makes it a potential competitor to robotaxi firms Waymo, China-based Pony.ai, and WeRide.
