A HOUSEHOLDER has revealed that a neighbour made a shocking threat during a dispute over Wi-Fi.

The gobsmacked resident slammed the woman as “ridiculous” and took to social media in a desperate bid to seek advice.

Arguments between neighbours can often escalate into slanging matches

Not only were people left stunned by what happened, several responded with advice on what to say.

Posting on the r/EntitledPeople thread on Reddit, the anonymous householder, who writes under the username @angelgild, outlined their story.

The resident started their post with the words: “My neighbor demanded my Wi-Fi password because her internet was down …”

Shocking events

They then went on to reveal the background to the demand – and the shocking events that followed.

“Yesterday my neighbor stormed over because her Wi-Fi wasn’t working,” they wrote.

“Since she knows I work with computers she insisted I ‘fix it immediately’.

“I explained her provider was having an outage and it had nothing to do with me.”

Listen to the noise-hell neighbour I live with. Whose blaring TV makes my flat SHAKE

That, explained the resident, was when things started to turn more sinister.”

They wrote: “She looked at me serious and said, ‘Well, just give me your password until mine is fixed.

“I told her no.

“She called me “selfish” and said Wi-Fi should be shared among neighbors, especially when hers wasn’t working.”

‘That’s one golden opportunity to rename your Wi-Fi with something sarcastic’

Reddit user

Then, the resident explained in the Reddit post, the situation really started to escalate.

“Then she actually threatened to report me to the HOA [Homeowners Association] for ‘withholding essential services’.

“Apparently my private internet is now a public utility that she’s entitled to.

“Ridiculous!”

User response

Reddit users were quick to offer advice.

One said: “That’s one golden opportunity to rename your Wi-Fi with something sarcastic.”

Another user responded to the post with their advice on what the resident should tell their neighbour.

They advised the resident to say: “MY internet service that I pay for is NOT yours, and I have absolutely NO OBLIGATION to give it to you … Bye.”

The Top Five Reasons Neighbours Squabble

One study by Compare the Market revealed the top reason British neighbour’s argue

  2. Parking: one of the leading drivers of neighbour disputes, with 54.1 per cent of people having issues with people parking in front of their house, parking bay or driveway
  3. Trees – complaints about a neighbour’s tree cracking your garden path was also common with nearly half of participants finding it frustrating
  4. Bin wars – outdoor bin etiquette continues to ignite the most furious debates between neighbours
  5. Nosy Neighbours – some people have their eyes and ears at the ready to have a peek causing problems for others
