Netflix is adding 29 new shows and movies to the streaming service today (Dec. 1). Given that Netflix often doesn’t add that much in an entire week, it’d be understandable if you didn’t know where to start. Lucky for you, I’ve already gone through the list and found five shows and movies worth watching right now.
I was able to find a blend of new Netflix originals and older classics being added that are worthy of streaming. There’s a new interview between comedy legends David Letterman and Adam Sandler that’s a must-watch, and a new monster movie sequel I’m hoping can live up to the original. Netflix has also added a few of the greatest movies ever made, and they’re definitely worth watching.

My top picks
‘A League of Their Own’
Watch On
If I tell you “There’s no crying in baseball,” there’s a good chance you’ll have heard the line before, even if you’ve never seen “A League of Their Own.” Tom Hanks’ iconic line is just one of many reasons this is one of the best baseball movies ever made. It tells the (mostly) true story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League that started up during World War II, in particular, the Rockford Peaches. This team was one of the founding members of the league, and even though they’ve long stopped playing ball, this movie ensures their name continues to live on.
But Hanks isn’t the only reason this movie is a must-watch. “A League of Their Own” has a star-studded cast of actresses playing members of the Peaches, including Geena Davis as Dorothy “Dottie” Hinson, Madonna as “All the Way” Mae Mordabito, Lori Petty as Kit Keller and Rosie O’Donnell as Doris Murphy. It even inspired a short-lived but well-liked Amazon Prime Video TV show that, unfortunately, had its run cancelled far too quickly.

‘My Next Guest with David Letterman and Adam Sandler’
Watch On
David Letterman is, undoubtedly, one of the best interviewers of all time, and after leaving the world of late-night television, he’s taken his talents to Netflix. In “My Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman,” Letterman sits down with a guest so famous, you probably know who they are. His roster of former guests includes presidents of countries, NBA stars and, after this week, it’ll include the legendary actor Adam Sandler.
Over the 60-minute episode of this Emmy Award-winning show, Letterman and the Sandman will engage in a long-form conversation, interspersed with in-the-field pre-taped segments. If you want a taste of what to expect, check out Letterman’s previous episode with comedian John Mulaney, or watch any of the hilarious interviews Letterman did with Sandler on the “Late Show.”

‘Pulp Fiction’
Watch On
Told in a non-linear format, “Pulp Fiction” stars Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta as Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega, hitmen working for local gangster Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). It also stars Bruce Willis as prizefighter Butch Coolidge and Uma Thurman as Wallace’s wife, Mia. With plenty of other incredible castmates, tons of violence and a sprinkling of drug use, this crime movie tells its three interwoven storylines across seven parts, each as captivating as the last.
Incredibly, I don’t think I’ve ever written about “Pulp Fiction” for Tom’s Guide. That’s not to say we haven’t covered it; the acclaimed 1994 crime drama has made it into many a list of movies to watch on our site. It won the Palme d’Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and was later nominated for seven awards at the 67th Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It ultimately only won Best Original Screenplay, but it is still considered perhaps the greatest independent movie ever made.

‘The Wolf of Wall Street’
Watch On
Speaking of drug use in incredible movies, it doesn’t get much better than Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Based on real events, this black comedy biopic stars Leonardo DiCaprio as notorious stockbroker Jordan Belfort. Starting in the late 1980s, the movie chronicles Belfort’s rise from a broker fired on Black Monday, through his time as a penny stocks pusher, all the way up until his pump and dump schemes at his firm Stratton Oakmont ultimately get him sent to a cushy minimum security prison.
This movie is incredible, considered not only one of the best movies of the year, but one of the best movies of the 2010s by numerous critics. It features what might be the best performance of DiCaprio’s career, as well as possibly the best performance of Margo Robbie’s career as Belfort’s wife. Jonah Hill is also incredible as the drug-addled neurotic Donnie Azoff, though I think his best performance is probably still “Moneyball.” If you’ve never seen this film before, or just haven’t seen it in a while, make time to watch it.

‘Troll 2’
Watch On
Recommending “Troll 2” is a tricky prospect. On the one hand, it’s the follow-up to “Troll,” a 2022 epic monster movie that was largely liked by critics but received mixed responses from audiences. On the other hand, this sequel to the fantastical Norwegian film doesn’t have any reviews yet, so I’ll be honest that I can’t tell you for sure that this will be worth watching.
Nonetheless, I’m calling my shot and saying that “Troll 2” will live up to the expectations set by the critical success of the first movie. In “Troll”, a group consisting of Nora Tidemann (Ine Marie Wilmann), Andreas Isaksen (Kim S. Falck-Jørgensen) and Major Kristoffer “Kris” Holm (Mads Sjøgård Pettersen) had to stop an ancient giant troll from wreaking havoc after it was awakened in a Norwegian mountain. Now, they have to stop yet another troll from destroying Norway, and this time, they have the help of a second giant troll ready to fight the first.
