Reeling of the success of prior Apple originals Black Bird and Tetris, Taron Egerton returns to Apple TV+ with a new crime drama Smoke, which starts streaming today. The show is both hot as in fire, as the series centers on tracking down serial arsonists, and hot as in acclaimed, garnering a positive early reception from critics.
You can watch Smoke exclusively on Apple TV+. The nine episode series drops new episodes every Friday through August 15, with a two-episode premiere available to watch now.
Smoke hails from creator Dennis Lehane, who was also behind Black Bird. Off the success of that 2022 limited series, which scored various accolades including an Emmy win for actor Paul Walter Hauser, Lehane inked an overall deal with Apple Studios for new TV development. Based on the early response, Smoke looks set to continue Lehane’s hot streak for Apple.
Inspired by a narrative podcast Firebug, the show stars Taron Egerton as Dave Gudsen and Jurnee Smollet as detective Michell Calderon. They are on the hunt to track down two serial arsonists who have been terrorising the Pacific Northwest. But it’s fair to say that not everything is at it first seems.
