Last week it was announced that CEO Elon Musk is closing down almost the entire Supercharger charging station division of his car company. As a result, approximately five hundred employees will lose their jobs. Supercharger director Rebecca Tinucci must also leave. It was then also announced that human resources director Allie Arebalo had resigned. She joined a number of other key executives who have recently left. Arebalo reported directly to Musk.
Musk previously announced that he will cut more than 10 percent of jobs worldwide. The electric car manufacturer employs approximately 140,000 people. The company decided to implement a major reorganization, because Tesla is suffering from disappointing sales and increased competition, especially from China. Partly because of this, the automaker experienced its worst quarter in years last quarter.
Last month, the company said it would cut more than 6,000 jobs in Texas and California and 400 near Berlin, home to Tesla’s only factory in Europe.
