Anyone who switches between several programs for meetings will know the problem. Tools like Teams, Zoom and Co. offer similar functions, but they can only be accessed using different shortcuts in each app. If you want to quickly mute the microphone, deactivate the camera or share the screen, you have to remember several key combinations across several programs.
Dune: A mini keypad for meetings
The company Project Mirage wants to change that. They have now started pre-orders for a little gadget called “Dune”. Basically, it’s a mini keypad with three buttons that can be connected to your Macbook via USB-C. When the gadget launches, only Apple notebooks that have at least an M2 or M1 Pro chip will initially be supported.
Once additional software has been downloaded, the Mini Keypad can detect which app you are currently actively using on your Mac. Based on the open application, Dune then displays three quick commands in the lower left corner of the screen. Those responsible have already given some apps preset shortcuts. In the calendar you can accept, cancel or join appointments directly if there is a meeting link. In Zoom appointments, you can turn your microphone and camera on and off at the touch of a button.

What’s particularly exciting, however, is that you can set your own shortcuts. Apple or shell scripts can even be used to execute more complex commands. For example, Dune can take a screenshot of your screen, search the recording for possible to-dos for you, and finally add them to a list. To achieve this, Dune uses Claude Desktop. The AI can also be used to build suitable scripts by simply describing to Claude what you want to achieve. Dune users can also share the shortcuts they create online.
Project Mirage is charging $119 for Dune at launch. But this is just an early introductory price. Once the current pre-order period ends, the price will rise to $149. According to Project Mirage, the first batch of Dune is currently being sent to customers who have previously supported the project. Anyone who is interested in one of the gadgets can be put on a waiting list for the second production batch.
