Nvidia has confirmed that is going to invest 1 billion dollars in Nokiaas part of a strategic agreement to boost AI in networks. The agreement, furthermore, carries the transfer of 2.9% of Nokia shares to NVIDIAwhich will thus keep approximately 166 million of its titles.

The two companies will work together to incorporate AI into telecommunications networks, as well as data center infrastructure. According to Nokia, the agreement will see them use NVIDIA’s AI products to upgrade their 5G and 6G networks. T-Mobile will also work with the two parties to test AI-RAN technologies as part of the 6G innovation R&D process. If all goes well, according to Nokia, “trials will begin in 2026, focusing on field validation of performance and efficiency gains for customers.”

Additionally, Nokia will accelerate the availability of its 5G and 6G RAN software on the NVIDIA Cuda platform, and expand its RAN product portfolio by integrating NVIDIA ARC-Pro into its new AI-RAN solution. NVIDIA ARC-Pro is a 6G-ready computing platform that combines connectivity, computing and sensor capabilities. According to NVIDIA, it is capable of making it easier for telecommunications companies to move from advanced 5G to 6G through software updates.

According to the CEO of Nokia, Justin Hotard«The next step in telecommunications is not just going from 5G to 6G. It is a fundamental redesign of the network to deliver AI-powered connectivity, capable of processing intelligence from the data center to the edge, all the way. Our agreement with Nvidia, and their investment in Nokia, will accelerate AI-RAN innovation to bring an AI-enabled data center to everyone’s pocket«.

Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIAhas highlighted that «Together with Nokia and the US telecommunications ecosystem, we will drive the revolution, equipping operators to develop intelligent, adaptive networks that will define the next generation of global connectivity«.
