According to The Wall Street Journal, OpenAI is considering significant price cuts for its AI services to prepare for a possible price war with competitor Anthropic. The price cuts are intended to affect AI tokens – the unit used to measure the use of AI services.

The AI cost fear is going around”

The background is the growing concern of many corporate customers about the high costs of AI services. It is precisely in this market segment that OpenAI wants to expand its share. At the same time, Anthropic gained considerable influence there due to the popularity of Claude Code.

However, according to the Wall Street Journal, a price war could put pressure on both OpenAI and Anthropic’s profitability. Both companies are already investing enormous amounts in AI infrastructure. In addition, both AI companies are said to have submitted confidential applications for an IPO, which could take place in the coming years.
