OpenAI introduces the “Sign in with ChatGPT” option to simplify creating online accounts. This functionality is, for the moment, reserved for certain of its partners, such as GitLab and Notion. Little by little, a ChatGPT account becomes a digital identity card.
OpenAI revealed a new option for facilitate the creation of accounts online on the web. Indeed, after “Sign in with Google” or “Sign in with Facebook”, we could soon be entitled to “Sign in with ChatGPT”. For the moment, this option is only reserved for a few of its partners. A ChatGPT account thus becomes a digital identity card, which reinforces OpenAI’s new strategy.
OpenAI wants to make it easier for you to create online accounts with the “Connect with ChatGPT” option
When creating a new account, online platforms offer a form to complete. Most of them also offer to create an account using an existing account on another platform. This is particularly the case for the famous options: “Connect with Google”, “Connect with Apple” or even “Connect with Facebook ». As such, OpenAI has announced its intention to find a place among the connection options offered to Internet users by integrating “Connect with ChatGPT”.
For the moment, this option, currently being deployed in beta version, is restricted to certain plugins and a handful of its partnersnamely Airtable, GitLab, HubSpot, Notion, Supabase and Vercel. On these platforms, it is now possible to create or associate an account simply by clicking on “Connect with ChatGPT”. No need to fill out a registration form, a ChatGPT account is enough.
OpenAI specifies that the user must then review and approve each extension’s access requests separately. Also note that Sam Altman’s company ensures that the partner platform will only receive the name, email address and the profile picture of the user, if they have added one to their ChatGPT account. Finally, note that this option will make it easier to use tools compatible with ChatGPT and Codex.
A ChatGPT account as a digital identity
With the “Connect with ChatGPT” option, a ChatGPT account becomes a digital identity on the web. It’s been a while now that ChatGPT has gone beyond being a simple chatbot. After having refocused its strategy by abandoning several of its “side quests”, OpenAI is increasing new features, while developing a family of devices centered on its AI. Between the possibility of adding a profile photo to your account, direct access to different plugins and the integration of Codex into the platform, ChatGPT is gradually transforming into a super app. It now remains to be seen whether OpenAI will roll out the “Connect with ChatGPT” option on a large scale. For the moment, the American company has not communicated on this subject.
