GAMERS have just hours to download a popular PlayStation game before it is removed.

It has been available on the store for the past seven years but is about to disappear and will not be reinstated.

Armored Warfare is a free-to-play vehicular combat game currently run by Wishlist Games

Armored Warfare was first added to PlayStation in 2018 but after midnight on July 20 it will no longer be available.

It is unclear why the PS4 game is being shut down.

Several outlets are reporting it could be it costing more to maintain the servers and support the game then it makes on the last-generation PlayStation console.

“Not only are running game servers expensive, but the game has to be maintained to prevent hacking and other security issues,” reported Comicbook.com

“This is also not cheap.”

Armored Warfare is a free-to-play vehicular combat game currently run by Wishlist Games.

The company took over the game from My.Games and Obsidian Entertainment, the original developers.

Wishlist Games also publishes the title.

Armored Warfare first debuted on PC but soon became available on several formats

The free-to-play game first debuted back in 2015, but only on PC.

Then in 2018, it was available on Xbox One and PS4.

It never came to Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, or PS5, but it is playable on all of these machines via backward compatibility.

While it is not known how many PS4 gamers are still playing Armored Warfare in 2025, according to the PlayStation Store it remains popular.

On the PlayStation Store it has more than 57,000 user reviews.

Across all of these user reviews, the game’s average score is 3.87 out of 5.

Those on PS4 or PS5 that decide to check out Armored Warfare on PSN before it is shut down will need PlayStation Plus to play it, according to its PlayStation Store listing.

There has not been any formal announcement, but the PlayStation Store listing has been updated with the following message:

“Attention: the game will be closed on July 30.”

The Sun has contacted PlayStation for comment.

The loss of Armored Warfare comes as four other games are being axed from PlayStation Plus as part of a huge shake-up to the digital library.

Sony warned gamers that the titles will be removed in days – leaving millions of subscribers with a fast-approaching deadline to download or lose out.

But there’s a silver lining – six surprise freebies have just landed for members, offering new adventures to dive into.

Fans have until August 6 to claim this month’s PS Plus Essential games before they’re replaced.

The titles getting the boot are:

  • Boarderlands 3
  • NHL 24
  • Among Us
  • Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (Next-Level Edition).

The six freebies being added are Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, The Forgotten City, LISA: Definitive Edition, ANIMAL WELL, Neon White and A Space for the Unbound.

From psychological horror to time travel, SIX freebies have something for everyone

Each of the six freebies listed above are available for a limited time, with some offers set to expire by the end of July, while others will remain free into August.

The full list and redemption deadlines can be found in the PlayStation Store’s promotions tab.

For some, the departure of big-name titles like Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will sting.

Both games remain hugely popular among co-op fans and looter-shooter lovers.

That said, the newly added indies offer a fresh chance to try critically acclaimed titles that might have flown under the radar.

From psychological horror in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, pictured above, to time-travelling mystery in The Forgotten City, there’s something for every taste – and no excuse not to explore them while they’re free.

This comes after a PlayStation game mysteriously vanished from various global PS stores without warning.

The PS4 exclusive game Entwined, which Sony published in 2014, has abruptly exited the UK PlayStation Store, the US PlayStation Store, and the European PlayStation Store.

The game’s profile still appears in the UK store, but with the tag: “Not available for purchase”.

Strangely, the title is still available on the Japanese PlayStation Store and PS Plus Extra.

Concrete Genie, a 2019 release by the same Sony-owned studio Pixelopus and the only other published game from the studio, remains available on the PlayStation store.

Pixelopus was shut down by Sony in 2023.

Sony has made no comment on the removal of Entwined, first reported by Comic Book.
