With further technical developments, especially in the area of AI, the topic of smart cities is now gaining even more speed. While in recent years the focus has often been on individual digital projects such as intelligent street lighting or sensors, today a fundamental change is emerging. According to market researchers at Gartner, cities are increasingly becoming integrated, AI-supported and sovereign ecosystems.
Social added value instead of a technology show
But what does this actually mean for citizens? How will cities function in ten years? What role do digital twins, data protection and governance play? And how can technologies be used to better address challenges such as climate change, infrastructure problems or even natural disasters?
We talk about this in the current episode of TechTalk, the podcast from Computerwoche and CIO, with Gartner analyst Bettina Tratz-Ryan. She explains why the intelligent city of the future will not impress with as much visible technology as possible, but rather with digital processes that make people’s everyday lives noticeably easier. She also uses international examples – from Istanbul to Berlin – to show how smart city concepts can already create added value for society today.
