Porsche has officially opened its China R&D Center in Shanghai, its first strategic research and development hub outside Germany, according to multiple Chinese media reports. Volkswagen Group and Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said China has become one of the world’s most dynamic and innovative ecosystems, leading in electrification, intelligence, and digitalization.

Blume noted that traditional R&D models can no longer meet China’s rapidly changing market demands. The new center integrates R&D, procurement, and quality control functions with independent decision-making authority, enabling development cycles to shorten from years to months.

Located in Shanghai’s Jiading District, the 10,000-square-meter facility includes specialized workshops and human–machine interaction labs. Its first product — a China-specific infotainment system — is expected to debut in 2026 production models. [TechNode reporting]
