In need of some Prime Video streaming recommendations? If you’re too busy with last-minute holiday prep to spend time scrolling through everything that’s new to Prime Video in December, here’s a handful of trending movies that I think are worth adding to your watchlist.
Like all the best streaming services, Prime Video is home to a huge, ever-changing library of movies and shows. Having tons to choose from is an obvious plus for subscribers, but it can also make actually choosing what to watch a real headache. And while you can always turn to the Prime Video top 10 list for some quick suggestions, you can’t guarantee what’s trending is going to be a worthy watch (case in point: Amazon’s 2024 Christmas misfire, “Red One”, is one of the most popular Prime Video movies right now).

‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’
Watch On
Clearly, plenty of people are still fitting in annual viewings of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” as the movie’s still Prime Video’s top watch right now.
If you somehow haven’t seen it before, this Christmas classic sees Jim Carrey bringing Dr. Seuss’ iconic green grouch to life. This holiday adventure sees the Grinch descending from his home on Mount Crumpit with one aim in mind: to get his revenge on Whoville by ruining their Christmas. His chaotic caper is upended because Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen) suspects that, maybe, the Grinch isn’t the miser he appears to be.

‘Merv’
Watch On
Of Prime Video’s crop of new Christmas originals, I think “Merv” might be my favorite of the bunch. It’s no critical darling, but it is a genuinely earnest romantic comedy, and it stars a very sweet pooch.
“Merv” introduces us to Anna (Zooey Deschanel) and Russ (Charlie Cox), a couple who have just gone their separate ways. That split has actually taken a real toll on Merv, the adorable dog that they’re now co-parenting. To try and get Merv’s spark back, Russ hatches a plan to go take their prized pup away on a boys’ trip to a dog-friendly beach — a boys’ trip that Anna crashes unexpectedly. As the trio spend time together, and Merv starts to emerge from his shell again, there are hints that, maybe, Anna and Russ’ spark could reignite…

‘It’s a Wonderful Life’
Watch On
As we’re drawing closer to Christmas, it’s no surprise to see the classic festive movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” crash into the top 10; watching it is practically synonymous with getting into the spirit of the season.
If you’ve never seen “It’s a Wonderful Life” before, it follows George Bailey (James Stewart), a dejected businessman who spends one fateful Christmas Eve wishing he’d never been born. A guardian angel, Clarence (Henry Travers), is sent down from Heaven to help George see the value of his own life by showing all the lives he has affected by being there.
