Pro-Ject Audio Systems has unveiled two new Head Box amplifiers, promising audiophile-grade clarity for headphone listeners.
Pro-Ject, best known for its turntables, is expanding its personal audio line with the Head Box DS3 B and Head Box S3 B.
Both models deliver fully balanced amplification, a feature usually reserved for high-end gear, creating maximum channel separation and minimal distortion. The DS3 B stands out with its discrete, low-noise components and powerful output, designed to drive even demanding headphones with ease.
Meanwhile, the S3 B offers a more accessible entry point without cutting corners. It uses TPA6120A2 chips to deliver up to 820mW of balanced output into 32 Ohms, making it a strong contender for those who want premium sound without breaking the bank.
Both amplifiers feature RCA and XLR inputs, providing flexibility for different setups. Outputs include traditional 3.5mm and 6.3mm jacks, alongside balanced 4.4mm Pentaconn and 4-pin XLR connections. This versatility means users can pair them with a wide range of headphones, from entry-level models to flagship cans.
The DS3 B’s fully balanced signal chain ensures ultra-clean amplification, while the S3 B’s compact design makes it ideal for desktop use. Pro-Ject also offers the Head Box E, a micro-sized option with a lower price point, aimed at casual listeners who still want a taste of high-fidelity sound.
For years, Pro-Ject has been synonymous with vinyl playback. Now, the company is bridging the gap between turntable enthusiasts and personal audio fans. These amps promise to deliver the same warmth and precision that vinyl lovers cherish, now tailored for headphone listening.
Audiophiles often complain that headphone setups lack the richness of turntable rigs. With the Head Box DS3 B and S3 B, Pro-Ject is making a clear statement: you can enjoy high-end clarity without sacrificing convenience.
