Qwen-Robot Suite: Alibaba’s new AI lets robots simulate before they act
SHARE

In February 2026, Alibaba presented Rynnbrain, an AI model for robots that is intended to give them a better understanding of their surroundings and the ability to remember. Now, with the Qwen Robot Suite, there are three AI models for the area of “Embodied AI”, i.e. AI systems that can act with a physical body in the real world.

Alibaba is working on AI for robots

As Alibaba reports, the Qwen-Robot Suite consists of the foundation models Qwen-Robot-Nav, Qwen-Robot-Manip and Qwen-Robot-World. According to the Chinese tech company, the aim is to bridge the gap between pure verbal instructions and the generation of physical actions. Ultimately, to connect the world of large language models with robotic AI.

Editorial recommendations

Qwen-Robot-Nav is intended to help robots understand physical spaces and move within them. Qwen Robot World, a type of video world model, is intended to enable robots to predict or simulate in advance how an action will take place on a physical level before they then tackle it.

For Qwen Robot Manip, Alibaba developers used over 38,000 hours of training data from robot datasets and human videos. This AI model is intended to ensure that different types of robots can perform gripping or manipulation tasks, such as sorting, transporting or assembling, with arms or hands.

The competition includes Nvidia and Neura Robotics

According to Alibaba, AI robotics is still in its infancy. But the goal is for a physical AI agent to be able to go anywhere, do anything, and predict what comes next. According to the company, the Qwen Robot Suite is the first step towards this goal.

Robots in Action: Eight exciting tech helpers in action

In addition to Alibaba, other companies are working on developing similar models and robots, as the South China Morning Post writes. Billions are currently being pumped into the sector. US companies with major AI robotics ambitions include Nvidia with its AI platforms Cosmos, Isaac and Groot and Google Deepmind with the Gemini Robotcos project. There are also a number of startups such as Physical Intelligence, Skild AI and Figure AI. In Germany, Neura Robotics is considered a pioneer. The company is involved, among other things, in a robot training center at Munich Airport.

Qwen-Robot Suite: Pilot program running

The company has not announced when Alibaba will make the Qwen Robot Suite developed by its Tongyi Lab research unit available to developers. Pilot tests are currently being carried out with selected Alibaba Cloud corporate customers.
