Apple is expected to give us a first look at iOS 19 at WWDC in June, but this OS revamp—which is rumored to be the biggest visual overhaul that iOS has seen since iOS 7 in 2013—may not play nice with your current iPhone.

In addition, iPadOS 19 is rumored to drop support for the 7th-generation iPad. 9to5Google notes that while the X account has a good track record of leaking Apple software features ahead of launch, this particular rumor does conflict with an equally reliable iPhoneSoft rumor from December 2023, which says all phones that run iOS 18 will also run iOS 19.

Should the rumors turn out to be accurate, it’ll be the first time Apple has dropped a phone from an iOS update since iOS 17, which was not supported on the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X models. All of the models that received iOS 17 also received iOS 18.

Fortunately, those with a potentially discontinued iPhone will still receive security updates from Cupertino for awhile. The aforementioned iPhone 8 still receives updates; the latest was on March 31, 2025. Older phones just won’t get to play around with all the new iOS perks; maybe it’s time to consider upgrading to a new iPhone?
