A SHOPPER at Sam’s Club has claimed he walked out mid-checkout – abandoning his cart – after his third failed attempt to pay.

The frustrated customer blasted his experience at the popular US warehouse chain, which has recently faced backlash over changes to its checkout policies.

The shopper wrote in a Facebook post: “Abandoned my cart in my 3rd checkout line at Sam’s Club today.

“I’d highly suggest avoiding this s*** show today.

“I had previously laughed inside at the lady who was complaining to everyone she had been there an hour… until I saw myself becoming her.”

But other Sam’s Club members quickly criticized the shopper, calling him a “drama queen” and suggesting he should have just used self-checkout.

One user commented under the post: “Use their Scan & Go.”

Another wrote: “I always use the scan and go. So much easier – never wait in lines.”

In an edit to their post, the shopper clarified that he did attempt to use Scan & Go but received no help – leading him to abandon his cart.

He wrote: “Edit: Scan & Go was my first attempt.

“I rang in my cart at self check out and attempted to have the assistant help me for my second.”

It comes as Sam’s Club bosses are modernizing the company’s warehouses by installing scanners that verify items in customers’ carts.

Popular warehouse retailer ‘a lot better’ than Sam’s Club confirms plans to open three more new stores in just weeks

Cameras snap images of the groceries which reduces the need for workers to check receipts – a common grievance flagged by customers at wholesale clubs.

But one shopper claimed they are always stopped at the door.

They alleged that a worker told them this was because they use a scooter.

“Apparently only handicapped patrons steal,” the shopper posted on Facebook.

“Thanks Sam’s – make handicapped people feel less.”

A Sam’s Club spokesperson replied to the customer and asked if they could send a direct message.

Other shoppers have reacted positively to Sam’s Club new scanning machines, claiming the process worked “remarkably well” and cut down the time they had to spend in store.

One member wrote: “My husband loves this! In and out so fast!”

The exit scanners have been installed in all 600 of the chain’s warehouses.

Sam’s Club bosses have confirmed that their warehouses are being remodelled as part of a shift toward outlets of the future.

According to reports, the company plans to phase out traditional checkout lanes – pushing shoppers to rely entirely on scan and go technology.
