Samsung Health: All-clear on AI data usage
SHARE

A report has been circulating since the beginning of the week that Samsung would deny data synchronization to users of the new Health app if they object to the use of their health data for training AI models. It was also said that if you revoke your consent, all data stored in the app would be deleted. This led to considerable uncertainty and anger among users.

“Important Notice” from Samsung

Since the beginning of July, Samsung Health users have been shown a pop-up window in the Health app asking them for their consent to use their data for AI purposes. How-To Geek first reported this. Now Samsung has reacted (via SamMobile) and given the all-clear in a post entitled “Important note: Note on consent to the use of health data for training and modeling AI”.

The original pop-up contained a message that, when deactivating the option, suggested that revocation would delete health data stored on Samsung servers and disable synchronization with the Samsung Cloud. Samsung now explains that a separate consent process is used to collect health data for AI training. This consent is voluntary and can be revoked at any time.

Samsung: Only training data is deleted

If users revoke their consent, only the data that was collected separately for AI development would be deleted. The health data stored in the Health app, which is intended for regular use of Samsung Health services, is not affected by this process and will not be deleted.

Samsung admitted that the wording of the pop-up notices was misleading. The company says it is already working on improving the text so that customers can understand the information more clearly and accurately.
