Summary

  • Samsung has begun rolling out One UI 8 to the Galaxy S25 series.
  • S24 series, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, S24 FE and selected devices will get One UI 8 throughout October.
  • One UI 8 brings revamped DeX, redesigned Quick Share, and Now Bar enhancements.

Samsung has officially begun the rollout of its highly anticipated One UI 8 (Android 16) update. While Samsung launched One UI 8 with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 earlier this summer, its older devices have been waiting for the update ever since, and are still running One UI 7. Like One UI 7, One UI 8 will have a phased rollout, meaning not every device will get the update at the same time.

Samsung has announced that, starting today (Sept 15), the Galaxy S25 series will begin receiving the One UI 8 update first. That means the Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, and S25 Edge have begun receiving the update, and if you have one of those devices, you should see it available for download now or very soon.

As for what devices are next on the list, Samsung says that the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy S24 FE, and “other selected products” will begin receiving One UI 8 “throughout October.” So, if you have an older Samsung device, unfortunately, there is still a bit of a wait.

What to expect from One UI 8 and how to download it

One UI 8 builds upon One UI 7

As for what One UI 8 has in store, some of the headlining features are improvements to Samsung Dex, including a new user interface that is more reminiscent of Android 16’s new desktop mode, a redesigned Quick Share menu, which makes it easier to share to manage what you’re sending or receiving, and improvements to the Now Bar, as it now supports Android 16’s Live Updates feature. This means more third-party app support should be coming to the Now Bar, which will make it a lot more useful than it was in One UI 7.

If you have a Samsung Galaxy S25 series device and want to download One UI 8 now, just go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. From there, you should see One UI 8 available for installation. If you don’t see it yet, it may be because the update is still gradually rolling out to all S25 series devices, but it should appear soon. Keep checking.
