Google will unveil the Pixel 10 series on August 20th, and the company can’t wait to launch its new series of AI phones. Google already showed the Pixel 10 design on its website, offering buyers the chance to score a discount for the new phones and trying to stay ahead of leaks. Google also made fun of Apple’s broken Apple Intelligence promises for the iPhone while promoting the upcoming Pixel 10 series in a commercial.
While Google hasn’t revealed any of the Pixel 10’s specifications or features in its teasers, we have seen plenty of leaks this year detailing the Pixel 10 designs, color options, and prices. We also suspect the phones will debut plenty of new Gemini AI features that will inevitably be available on other Pixel and Android phones in the months after the Pixel 10 launches. After all, AI is Google’s top priority across products. Devices like the Pixel 10 should put brand-new AI features front and center.
Unsurprisingly, some of Google’s exclusive Gemini AI features for the Pixel 10 series also leaked with a couple of weeks to go until the launch event, and they’re quite exciting. If reports are correct, Google plans to add a Camera Coach AI feature to its Pixel 10 phones to help you take better photos. A second Gemini AI tool for the camera will let you edit pictures by just telling the AI what you want changed.
Pixel 10’s Camera Coach
Every Pixel 10 phone should feature triple-lens cameras on the back, including the base model. On that note, German blog WinFuture (via 9to5Google) posted plenty of images online that show the Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 10 designs from every angle. The phones resemble their predecessors, but the images above and below give us a look at the new colors. The Pixel 10 Pro XL comes in Moonstone and Obsidian, while the base Pixel 10 model will come in an Indigo colorway.
The rumored Gemini AI features for the Pixel 10 series are more interesting than press photos showing the same leaked design. Per Android Headlines, Camera Coach is a Gemini functionality that will allow the AI to give you photo tips in real time.
Camera Coach will be able to see the scene you’re about to capture. It will then suggest lighting changes and even tell you to adjust the angle for a better photo. The feature should help any photographer improve their game while they’re taking pictures. If you’re rather inexperienced or want to take better photos with your phone, a feature like Camera Coach will surely come in handy.
Conversational Photo Editing AI
A separate report from Android Headlines details another interesting Gemini AI feature that should be exclusive to the Pixel 10 series initially. The Conversational Photo Editing feature will let you tell the AI what you want to change in a photo. Rather than tapping on the image to then select an edit option from an AI menu, you’ll be able to type out instructions for Gemini. Hopefully, the feature will support voice mode for even faster edits.
Conversational Photo Editing will let you improve brightness, remove objects, or change the background of a photo. Long-time Pixel owners familiar with photo-editing features will surely be able to perform these actions without using the new feature, but Conversational Photo Editing might be faster than going through menus in Google Photos. Also, Conversational Photo Editing can be a great tool for the less tech-savvy users who want to improve their photos.
I’m not a big fan of using generative AI software to completely alter photos and create fake memories of events that never happened. But being able to adjust the lighting of a photo with a text or voice prompt is definitely a great feature to have on hand. It’s unclear what the privacy settings for these new Gemini features for the Pixel 10’s Camera app will be, but Google should explain exactly how the AI processes photo suggestions and edits, and what gets uploaded to Gemini AI servers, later this month.
