Sony’s phone design hasn’t changed much in recent years, but its new midrange smartphone looks set to change that. The Sony Xperia 10 VII likely won’t be available in the US, but it’s notable for its Google Pixel-like camera bar.

The handset still keeps the square design of other Sony handsets, including the flat edges. But this is the first time we’ve seen Sony use a camera bar running across the width of a phone. Previously, its cameras have been in the top left, running vertically.

The camera bar features a 50MP f/1.9 main camera with a 12MP f/2.4 ultra-wide, followed by a Sony logo emblazoned on the remainder of the design. Other notable features that aren’t typically available on other phones include a 3.5mm headphone jack, front-facing stereo speakers, and a microSD slot allowing for up to 2TB of extra space.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 with 8GB of RAM. The only storage option is 128GB; if you want more space, you’ll have to opt for microSD.

There’s a 5,000mAh battery inside that Sony says will last for two days. As with all battery estimates, take it with a pinch of salt as it’ll differ depending on your usage.

The screen is a 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 tech. The phone’s color choices are Charcoal Black, Turquoise, or White.

The Xperia 10 VII comes with Android 15 software and a promise of four years of updates. That’s lacking compared to Sony’s rivals. For example, Samsung’s midrange Galaxy A56 5G comes with six years of updates. However, you do get six years of security support from Sony.

The big problem is availability. Sony has yet to confirm details of a US release, which usually means we’re not getting one. Sony hasn’t released a phone in the US since 2022, skipping two generations of its flagship Xperia 1 series.

Instead, look for the Xperia 10 VII in Europe, Japan, and the UK on Sept. 19 for around $525.
