On Monday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who is on an official visit to China, visited the Xiaomi Technology Park in Beijing. Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, accompanied him throughout the visit and introduced the company’s business layout.

The visit not only demonstrated the deepening technological cooperation between China and Spain, but also highlighted the growing global influence of Chinese tech companies.

Guided by Lei Jun, Prime Minister Sánchez toured the Xiaomi exhibition hall and experienced several of the company’s latest innovations, including the Xiaomi SU7 and YU7 smart vehicles, as well as Xiaomi AI glasses.

During a test drive of the YU7, Sánchez showed strong interest in the vehicle’s integration with smartphones, asking in detail about its driving range and advanced driver-assistance features.

Upon learning that Xiaomi plans to begin overseas deliveries of its vehicles in 2027, with Europe as the first destination, he remarked on the spot: “The Spanish market is ready to welcome Xiaomi cars.”

Xiaomi’s business in Spain spans multiple sectors, including smartphones, smart home devices, and the automotive value chain. According to Omdia, Xiaomi ranked No. 1 in Spain’s smartphone market in 2025 with a 30% market share.

Lei Jun also said Xiaomi’s collaborations with local Spanish companies, including its co-developed high-end imaging technology with Leica and the joint development of a smart ecosystem with local supply chains.

Sánchez personally tried the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica edition smartphone and took a selfie with Lei Jun, joking that it was “the best testament to China-Spain technological cooperation.”

Sánchez’s visit marks the fourth trip to China in four years and is a key part of his current itinerary. On the same day, he also delivered a speech at Tsinghua University, emphasizing that “technological innovation is a new engine for China-Spain cooperation.”

The visit signals a shift among Chinese tech companies from exporting products to exporting technological standards, injecting new momentum into global industrial transformation.
