After offering a rare discount on the Starlink residential plan, SpaceX is now promoting a similar deal for the Roam tier, which is designed for users on the go, including those traveling in RVs.

The deal is available in three European markets: France, Germany, and Spain, according to the Starlink website. In all three countries, it usually costs €40 per month for the Starlink Roam 50GB plan and €89 per month ($104) for the Roam Unlimited data service. But SpaceX is offering to slash the rates by about 40% to €24 and €50, respectively.

The Roam plan also works with the portable Starlink Mini dish. The catch is that the deal applies to new customers and lasts for six months. “Customers who change their plan, cancel their service, or are suspended will lose their promotional pricing,” the company says.

The deal raises the possibility that SpaceX could offer a similar discount in the US, where the Roam plan currently costs $50 per month for the 50GB plan and $165 for the unlimited data tier.

Last month, SpaceX took the rare step in the US of discounting the residential plan, which is cheaper than the Roam tier, but restricts usage to one address. Rather than charge $120 per month, SpaceX has been giving new customers the chance to secure a $99 or even $65 monthly rate if they select the residential lite plan. But again, the deal only applies to new sign-ups and in regions of the US where the company has excess capacity on the Starlink network.

To further encourage sales, the company has discounted the Starlink standard dish from $349 to $175. However, Starlink.com says the deal expires on Friday, Sept. 12. So we’ll be curious to see what SpaceX has in store after that. In the US, Starlink has increased its subscriber base to over 2 million after the satellite internet system’s growth had previously seemed to stagnate.
