Stranger Things is dead, live Stranger Things ! Ten years after its launch on Netflix, the Duffer brothers’ series bows out with a Dantesque final episode. Goodbye Hawkins, goodbye to the little gang and let’s bring down the curtain on the universe which has captivated the crowds since the disappearance of a certain Will Byers. The end, really? No, Netflix already has plans to continue with derivative productions. You don’t kill your golden goose that easily.
When the Red N’s takeover of Warner Bros. was announced, the company made Eleven a standard bearer for its catalog… strange for a transaction supposed to conclude at least a year after the end of the series.
But like Harry Potter, Stranger Things is intended to become a universe that comes in many forms… and we won’t have to wait very long to reap the fruits of this nostalgic and mercantile tree. Starting this year 2026, the Duffer brothers will fill the gap between two seasons.
An animated series
Starting next spring, Netflix will return to Hawkins to explore the year 1985. Between season 2 and season 3it will be about following our heroes as they investigate a new mystery. During a harsh winter, Max, Eleven, Will and Dustin look into phenomena linked to the Upside Down and Vecna’s evil plan to take over the surface. Inspired by 80s cartoons, the series was designed as a tribute to Saturday mornings with a bowl of cereal to watch Ghostbusters For example.

Note that this launch is accompanied by a change in casting. Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard and David Harbor do not return in original version. Brooklyn Davey Norstedt, Luca Diaz and Brett Gipson will lend their voices to Eleven, Mike and Hopper. Behind the scenes, the Duffer brothers also welcome a newcomer, Eric Robles serves as showrunner alongside two creators from the original series.
A live-action spin-off
In addition to this animated proposal, the Duffer brothers plan to go live-action to add to the mythology of the Upside Down. A live-action series is in preparation and should see the light of day very soon. If the Duffer brothers cultivate mystery as to the content of this new series, Finn Wolfhard has, unwittingly, spilled the beans to Variety.
While playing diviners, he mentioned an anthology with “different atmospheres, but a similar, even identical universe. I think the story will take place in different places, all linked by the mythology of the Upside Down. We don’t mention our characters. In my opinion, the most brilliant solution, the one I imagine, would be to have laboratories everywhere. If there is one in Hawkins, there must be one in Russia.”
His theory was validated by the creators themselves, even confiding that this information had caused them some minor panic at Netflix. They said to Deadline, “Everyone freaked out when they found out he revealed the concept. Now that everyone at Netflix knows, they’re really excited. We’re trying to speed up the process. So, hopefully it will come to fruition soon.”
It remains to be seen now, without the beating heart of the story: the characters that spectators have learned to love over the seasons, the universe of Stranger Things fascinates so much. In any case, a page is turning for Netflix, which will have relied heavily on the Duffer brothers’ series to become essential to the daily lives of millions of users.
