Switch 2 Joy-Cons will be much easier to find

Just because the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons have mouse functionality, it doesn’t mean that they’re going to go scurrying away under the couch.

However, the plucky Switch 2 controllers may, like their predecessors, have the tendency to slide between the sofa cushions every once in a while.

Thankfully Nintendo is improving the situation by offering a ‘Search For Controllers’ feature for Switch 2 Joy-Cons, which will get you back to playing the best Switch 2 games sooner rather than later.

A Twitter/X users named Stealth40k posted a video of a new menu that can summon a rumble vibration and a ring from the left or right controller, if it’s missing in action. Now Nintendo itself has confirmed the feature via the Nintendo Today app.

Nintendo says: “Use the Search for Controllers feature to locate your Joy-Con 2 controllers. The controller you are looking for will vibrate and make a sound. Note that the controller will not be detected if it has not been paired with your system, out of batteries, or out of range.”

The new Joy-Cons have a new C button that launches Nintendo’s new Game Chat feature and attach magnetically to the Switch 2. They won’t easily detach, so there’s a release button at the back of the console. A few of the buttons are larger too which should facilitate easier play.

Elsewhere in the Nintendo Today app, which is becoming a decent source of Nintendo news worth keeping an eye, Nintendo gave us a look at the binoculars you’ll find dotted around the environment in Mario Kart World. You’ll be able to glance around the track and locate other drivers and characters.

Opinion

All of this is very well and good, but if Nintendo hasn’t sorted out that Joy-Con drift issue then these fancy features are going to be academic. Nintendo chose not to deploy Hall Effect technology but does believe it has mitigated the issue in other ways.
