Target confirms Easter meal kit is back and nearly $20 cheaper than Walmart

TARGET has released the lineup for its Easter meal kit, and it’s more affordable than some top competitors.

Consumers who opt for the prepared feast from the retail giant could save at least $20 compared to a similar offer from Walmart.

Earlier this month, Target confirmed that the meal kit would cost the same as it did in 2024, just under $25, per a news release.

The entire setup includes nine dishes that feed up to eight people.

Some include a six-pound ham and all ingredients necessary for green bean casserole and stuffing.

There’s also a mixture of Target-brand ingredients and more nationally recognized offerings, like a 12-ounce jar of Heinz gravy and a 14.5-ounce can of Del Monte green beans, along with the Good & Gather russet potatoes and Market Pantry ham.

Eggs are notably not included in the offering, which makes sense as the H5N1 bird flu virus causes continued high prices and shortages at retailers like Target nationwide.

Still, a dozen Grade A large eggs can be added for $4.99, not bad considering some states have prices for a dozen eggs averaging over $10.

Strawberry frosted donuts and one pound of cut bacon are also $4.99 each as add-ons.

Desserts like the Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies and Mini Cupcakes are only $4.49.

Customers can also include dessert ingredient selections for as low as $1.50.

Orders for pickup and delivery can be made at Target now through April 20 (Easter Sunday).

COMPETING EATS

Walmart highlighted its Easter meal kit in March, also with nine items.

It focused on the individual price per person of less than $6 each rather than a combined total like Target and said it was more budget-friendly than in 2024 in a news release.

Assuming it’s even $5 per person with tax, that’s still considerably more than Target at around $40.

Included are a brown sugar ham, mac n cheese, corn on the cob, rolls, potatoes, green beans, and a navel orange among others.

What is Target Circle 360?

In April, Target launched its first-ever paid membership program, Target Circle 360.

For $99 a year, members get access to the following perks:

  • Unlimited, free same-day delivery on orders over $35
  • An extra 30 days to return your items
  • Free two-day shipping on 100,000s of items
  • 5% off in-store and online
  • Automatic deals and exclusive partner perks

Walmart has a leg up on Target by including a dessert — the creme cake.

It also does not include an egg offer.

The decision between the two Easter meals will ultimately come down to consumers’ budgets and personal preferences.

OPEN OR CLOSED?

Target is also one of a select few retailers that will be closing all of its stores for 24 hours on Easter Sunday, according to what a spokesperson recently confirmed to The U.S. Sun.

“Guests can expect regular store hours on April 19 and can check Target.com or the Target app for local store information,” they added via email.

Some others, like Sam’s Club, Costco, Aldi, and Publix will also close down.

Walmart is remaining open, along with CVS, Whole Foods, Dollar General, Trader Joe’s, and others.

A complete list of retailers staying open or closing up shop on Easter is included at the bottom of the page.

The Easter holiday is also set to not impact Americans’ bank transactions.

Dollar Tree shoppers are also rushing to get some ‘adorable’ bunny figurines for just $3 to celebrate before they sell out.

Retailers Open and Closed for Easter

Shoppers can generally expect the following retailers to be open and closed on Easter Sunday, which falls on April 20, 2025, this year:

Open for Easter:

  • CVS
  • Dollar General
  • Whole Foods
  • Home Depot
  • Kroger
  • Trader Joe’s
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart
  • Dollar Tree

Closed:

  • Target
  • Costco
  • Aldi
  • Sam’s Club
  • Publix
  • JCPenney
  • Kohl’s
  • Macy’s
  • H-E-B
  • Michaels
  • Lowe’s
  • Best Buy
  • Marshalls

Easter Sunday hours will vary by store and location. To avoid any surprises, be sure to check with your local store for their specific Easter hours.
