‘The future will be a mix of bionic and humanoid robots’: Dreame’s product expert reveals the brand’s next step for robot vacuums

When it comes to tackling chores, the best robot vacuums have been a real game-changer in many homes. Not only do they excel at picking up all types of debris, mopping, and scrubbing floors, but even offer self-cleaning and self-drying capabilities — literally the concept of hands-free cleaning.

But with the advancement of newer, sophisticated technology, robot innovation has consistently pushed boundaries, with many brands taking robot vacuums to another level.

Dreame, a big player in the cleaning industry, recently unveiled an innovative line-up of robovacs at the CES 2026. Here we saw how far robot vacuums have come, and ditching the standard circular design for sci-fi-esque models with bionic arms and even the ability to climb stairs.

I had a chance to catch up with Kurt Wang, Dreame’s Product Manager to discuss the brand’s vision, latest designs, and more importantly — what’s next for its robot vacuums?

Extendable and ‘bionic’ arms will become a thing

Perhaps one of the latest innovations that blew my mind was the Dreame Cyber 10 Ultra. Its design includes a multi-jointed, extendable arm that mimics a human hand. This allows the robot vacuum to literally pick up objects, such as dirty socks or any rogue item that might be in its way and take it back to its rightful place.

This arm is located under a cover and extends from the top of the vacuum, with a claw-like device at the end for easily scooping up objects. In fact, when our Editor saw the Cyber 10 Ultra in action at CES 2026, he thought its claw was the perfect solution to his kid’s messy room.

While the idea of robotic-armed cleaners is seemingly straight out of a sci-fi film (and the answer to clutter), this raises the question of how these devices will become common in our homes.

Well, according to Wang the concept of extendable arms are already here — but will inevitably evolve in the future. “Corner and edge cleaning is always an issue for robotic vacuums, which is why most of our new models now have extendable arms, and mop extensions that can rotate and easily tackle the edges,” states Wang. “For the Cyber 10 Ultra, we’ve just taken this philosophy but used it to do something innovative such as introducing the robotic bionic arm.”

In fact, the Cyber 10’s extendable arm is capable of reaching out to 13 inches and grasping objects weighing up to 500 grams (a little over 1 pound). Additionally, this feature allows the bot to clean in narrow, hard-to-reach crevices and can cross high thresholds — which are all solutions to most common gripes.

It’s no surprise this model is expected to carry a premium price tag of around $2,000. While we don’t have an official release date and price as yet, the brand is targeting a late summer launch.

The rise of climbing robots

If you live in a home with multiple floors or winding staircases, climbing robots offer a simple solution for effortless stair cleaning. Which is why the brand is actively expanding into the area of climbing robots — even though the idea of a robot appearing up my staircase initially seems alarming.

“We hope to achieve more climbing technology in the next year or two,” adds Wang. “We launched the concept of robotic climbing vacuums, such as the Cyber X prototype. These would primarily target consumers with four or five floors. This way, you don’t need to touch or move the robot around manually to do the job effortlessly.”

So, beyond bionic arms that can pick up your dirty socks off the floor, and climbing robots to tackle steps without toppling over, what does the future hold for Dreame’s robot vacuums?

“The market is growing so fast, and in terms of the future, I see a lot of innovation and AI,” Wang shares. “For example, the Cyber 10 Ultra shows how we can mix AI tech, bionic and humanoid robotics. So future models could feature two bionic arms, feet, or perhaps a more humanoid robot design someday. I think the sky’s the limit.”

I’m really keen to see how robot vacuums develop in the future — and if a home humanoid model is actually on the horizon. It’s certainly possible. Keep checking back here for the latest news.
