Between manual tests, approximate dosage calculations and constant doubts about the reliability of the analyzes, it is easy to waste time … or to do it. It is precisely to remedy this puzzle that Iopool Eco was born. This small floating analyzer, designed by a Belgian start-up, aims to simplify the daily life of the owners of swimming pools or spa. And to push the experience even further, a Wi-Fi relay completes the system, offering remote monitoring in real time. We have tested this connected solution, and here is what it is really worth.
A design that does not look like much
This small cylindrical pebble (22 cm / 150 g), with neat plastic finish, is simply placed in the pool water, where it floats discreetly. No cable, no complicated box to install: just activate it via the dedicated mobile application (available on iOS and Android) and let it do its job. The operation takes less than five minutes, shows in hand. The only constraint: to shake it slightly to activate the internal probes before putting it in the water.
The heart of the system is based on three integrated sensors, capable of continuously measure the water temperature, its pH and the oxydored potential (ORP). This last parameter is essential: it makes it possible to estimate the disinfectant power of water, by evaluating the quantity of oxidizing agents (such as chlorine or bromine). Iopool Eco is distinguished by the regularity of its statements and a rather simple application (see a little too much). For each measure, you get a simple, but precise synthesis of water quality. And above all, you receive concrete recommendations, personalized according to the volume of the basin and the products used.
This is one of the great assets of the IOPOOL ecosystem: the application is not content to say “be careful, the pH is too low”. She explains why, how to remedy it, and with what product, indicating precisely the quantity to add. It even takes into account the stocks available in your cabinet, if you have informed the products in your possession. This “smart assistant” side is very appreciable, especially for less experienced users. You can also Buy products directly on the store via a dedicated tab in the app.
An essential wifi companion
But for this promise really to work on a daily basis, you have to be able to access the probe data at any time. However, the Iopool Eco communicates only via Bluetooth by default. This means that, without Wi-Fi relay, you must be close to the pool to trigger synchronization. This is where the relay comes into play: connected to your internet box, it makes the link between the probe and the Iopool cloud. Therefore, no need to take out your phone next to the swimming pool: you can monitor the readings from the office, on vacation or even at the other end of the world. The installation of this relay is again very simple: just connect it to an electrical outlet close to the basin (and ideally sheltered), connect it to the Wi-Fi network, and off you go.
Over the days, the IOPOOL app traces a real history of water quality. We visualize the temperature increases, the disinfectant reductions, the critical periods … This not only reacts to react quickly, but also to anticipate the treatments before the imbalances become problematic. During a heat wave or after heavy rains, this tool becomes particularly precious.
Reliable results
During our test, the sensor was very reliable with measures that were consistent with those obtained via strips or from the Flipr that we also have in the basin. The time saving is undeniable, and the peace of mind brought by the Wi-Fi relay is a real plus. We also appreciate the possibility of manually adding measurements (via a tongue test) or actions in the app, such as a punctual addition of manual product, in order to keep a complete trace of the maintenance.
Please note, Iopool Eco is not compatible with all types of treatment. It is optimized for pools using chlorine (pebbles, liquid or pastilles) or bromine. For those operating with salt or active oxygen electrolysis, you will have to buy the Eco Salt version. Likewise, although the Wi-Fi relay brings real comfort, it represents a significant additional cost compared to the Bluetooth version alone (+ 59 euros). Finally, the sensor must be recalibrated every year approximately, as for its autonomy, it is announced for 2 to 3 seasons, after which the probe will have to be replaced.
Iopool signs with the Eco a well thought out connected solution, at the crossroads between intelligent sensor and personal assistant. Coupled with its Wi-Fi relay, it transforms the maintenance of the swimming pool into a light, efficient and reassuring routine. A great success, especially for individuals who want to keep the water always clean, without spending hours there.
The ECO IOPOOL is available from 249 euros (299 euros with the Wi-Fi relay), and the IOPOOL Eco Salt at 349 euros (WiFi relay included).
