You thought you were done with it Hunger Games ? Think again. Last March, Suzanne Collins published the fifth novel of his saga, entitled Sunrise over the harvestwhich quickly established itself as the best opus in the hearts of readers. Sixteen years after flying over the Haymitch Games in the lines ofHunger Games: Catching Firethe author finally reveals the terrible past of Katniss and Peeta’s mentor. What is the point of covering this Atonement event where we already know the big winner, you ask us? But in a totalitarian world like that of Panem, appearances are always deceiving.
As for The walk of the snake and the songbird, Lionsgate launched its adaptation project even before the publication of the novel in order to be able to project this story as quickly as possible. But if the previous film adaptation was rather disappointing – above all because the singular structure of the novel was not adapted to this exercise – the next one could well be the best.
In book, Sunrise over the harvest is excellent and its story seems ideal for the big screen. The ingredients for a new cult blockbuster are there and the first trailer for the film doesn’t lie. Exactly one year from its theatrical release (scheduled for November 20, 2026 in the United States) the next Hunger Games reveals promising images while filming is barely coming to an end.

Hunger Games like we’ve never seen it before
Once again at the helm of this adaptation, director Francis Lawrence continues the artistic direction of Panem in a logical manner. The saga takes place in the remains of a North America devastated by war and natural disasters. The first films were resolutely futuristic, but the previous prequel mixed technology and the aesthetics of the 40s and 50s. Since fashions repeat themselves like an endless cycle, Lawrence models the evolution of Panem on that of our society.
The costumes of the Capitol – and more specifically those of Drusilla (Glenn Close) and Effie (Elle Fanning) – suggest that Hunger Games: Sunrise over the Harvest will be placed under the sign of the 70s. What could be better than the era ofpeace and love” to bring out the horrors of this universe. The arena, also colorful and beautiful, promises to reserve an ironic fate for the 48 tributes of the 50th Games.
Some visuals still seem a little simple, but this is not surprising given that filming is still in full swing in Berlin. Only the scenes in the arena were all filmed this summer in Spain. With us, this new film Hunger Games will be in cinemas from November 18, 2026. The novel is available from Pocket Jeunesse editions.
