At the release of Windows 11 in 2021, very many users were disappointed by the mutation of the essential menu start, which has certainly become more elegant but also less flexible in terms of personalization. If this is your case, you will probably be delighted to learn that Microsoft is preparing an update which should finally fill some of these shortcomings.

This information, relayed by The Verge, initially comes from a user of Bluesky called Phantomofearth. By exploring a beta version of the operating system, he found that this good old start menu had undergone a substantial transformation.

More space, fewer friction

First exciting observation: The famous section ” Recommended “, Who occupies a lot of space when it is almost useless for many users, can finally be deactivated. A real blessing for users who juggle many applications and feel cramped with the current version.

Another welcome change: in the version tested by Phantomofearth, all programs are now gathered in a global menu which can be personalized at leisure, in particular with a drop -down menu which allows them to be easily sorted. A new icon also appears in the upper right corner of the menu. This is apparently a new interface for the Phone Link functionality, which allows you to directly access your smartphone from Windows.

Unfortunately, another functionality often claimed always shines by its absence. Many users often complain about the fact that Windows 11 no longer allows you to move the taskbar and the start menu to the right or left of the office, and unfortunately, it seems that Microsoft has not planned to correct this regression in the near future.

The date of deployment of this new version of the start menu remains unknown at present; It will undoubtedly have to wait a few weeks, or even a few months before seeing it land on the consumer versions of the operating system.
