VPNSECURE, a supplier of VPN formerly popular for its “life” subscription offers, crosses a hectic period. Since the end of April, many users have seen their access cut, without prior warning. The service sent them an email announcing that life subscriptions were disabled ” To guarantee quality and secure experience to all users », As of April 28, 2025.

Lifetime subscriptions … more so eternal

Behind this decision, an explanation at the very least surprising: the new owners claim to have discovered after the purchase that thousands of these subscriptions had been sold via third -party platforms like stacksocial. The email evokes a redemption in 2023 in the form of “sale of assets only” by the company infinite the LTD, which would have taken up neither the contracts nor the commitments made. The team claims that these subscriptions represented an unmanned financial weight, draining resources without generating recurring income.

As a compensation, VPNSECURE offers promotional offers to injured subscribers: $ 1.87 for a month, $ 19 for a year or $ 55 for three years. These prices are valid until May 31. But for many, the pill is difficult to swallow.

Since March, complaints accumulate. On Trustpilot, the service raised around twenty pages of criticism to a star. Users denounce a total absence of communication before the cut. “” The email should have arrived before the interruption of the service “Writes an unhappy customer. Another summarizes the general feeling: ” They say they have examined the vpnsecure activity before the acquisition, but a simple Google research would have been enough to find life offers. »

On Reddit, anger is similar, especially since VPNSECURE had already started to deactivate certain accounts deemed “inactive” for more than six months. The vagueness around the real entity behind VPNSECURE does not help: the site mentions Infinito the LTD in the Bahamas, while the conditions of use speak of a company in Dubai (Holdxb Trading Fzco). Before 2024, VPNSECURE was recorded in Australia.

The new owner acknowledges that the management of the transition has been clumsy. “” We fully assume the responsibility of having warned users afterwards “Said a representative on Trustpilot. The team also explains that it has planned to close the service by discovering the extent of lifetime subscriptions, but claims to have chosen to keep it open, without legal proceedings towards the initial seller.

The VPNSECURE affair highlights the limits of so -called “life” subscriptions. While some customers have been able to benefit from the service for more than ten years, others have benefited only a few years. And even if these offers are often enticing, they are based on a promise that is difficult to hold in the long term, especially in the event of a change of direction.

The story also recalls that these offers are often offered by third -party resellers, who escape any direct user control. Even when they are still visible on web archives such as Wayback Machine, their legitimacy becomes vague as soon as the company changes hands.

In the end, it is the customers who pay the Price. VPNSECURE, despite his apologies, leaves behind a disillusioned community, for which the notion of life subscription will now have a bitter taste.
