Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced the launch of its new S300 AI hard drives, specially designed for video surveillance applications that make use of artificial intelligence.

The Toshiba S300 AI are optimized for high-resolution video capture, analysis and storage and promise greater capacities, improved performance and enterprise-grade durability to meet the demands of AI video surveillance workloads, a rapidly expanding segment, as Larry Martínez-Palomo, vice president and director of the storage products division at Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH, explains in the announcement:

“The video surveillance market is evolving rapidly and AI-based analytics are driving new requirements for storage performance, capacity and reliability… Toshiba continues to expand and adapt its range of hard drives to meet these needs, offering greater capacities, improved performance and enterprise-grade durability designed specifically for AI workloads”adds the executive.

Toshiba S300 AI, capabilities

The new Toshiba drives are available with storage capacities from 8 Tbytes to 24 Tbytes. They support large-scale, continuous recording and preservation for AI video analytics servers and storage solutions, centralized video surveillance data storage systems, video archive and retrieval infrastructure, and multi-bay RAID configurations.

This combination of scale, speed and endurance makes these drives an effective solution for storing and processing the huge volumes of video and analytical data generated by AI video surveillance systems. S300 AI units are tuned to handle the additional random access introduced by AI workloads, ensuring fast retrieval of video data for accurate, real-time AI analytics.

Additionally, the Toshiba S300 AI supports up to 64 high-resolution camera streams and up to 32 additional AI streamsallowing for easy scaling to meet the changing requirements of AI-powered video surveillance. Thanks to their large capacities and optimized design, these units are a suitable choice for continuous recording in a wide variety of sectors and infrastructures such as transportation, industry, smart city projects, healthcare and geriatric care, finance and logistics.

S300 AI hard drives are designed to perform 24/7 in mission critical environments thanks to an annual workload rate of 550 TB and a mean time between failures (MTTF) of up to 2.5 million hours. Toshiba backs the drives with a 5-year limited warranty, reinforcing their durability and suitability for the most demanding video surveillance applications.

Hard drives remain important in many market segments and Toshiba S300 AI with capacities of 8 TB and 10 TB will be available starting this November, while drives with higher capacities will arrive in the first quarter of 2026.
