Barca’s Gonzalez blunder
Cash-strapped Barcelona reportedly lost out on MILLIONS from Nico Gonzalez’s £50million Manchester City switch due to a contract blunder.
Before joining the Portuguese side in 2023, Gonzalez came through the ranks at Barcelona’s La Masia academy before being sold for £7million to Porto.
However, the Catalans made sure to include a clause that entitled them to 40 per cent of his next fee.
Despite that, ESPN claims Barcelona will now receive just 20 per cent of Gonzalez’s £50m.
That’s because before selling him to City, Porto snapped up half of Barcelona’s clause for only £2.5m.
It means instead of receiving £20m as part of Gonzalez’s move to City, Barca have banked just £10m.
Including Porto’s cheeky clause cash-in, it makes for a grand total of £12.5m — £7.5m less than the Spaniards were expecting to rake in.
Man City’s mega spending
Manchester City’s owners have dug deep into their pockets to fund a huge winter spending spree to try and re-track the champions’ off-the-rails season.
And some reports are claiming that City’s spending has almost eclipsed that of the rest of Premier League’s spending COMBINED.
According to the BBC, City splashed out £180m on the arrivals of Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov and Nico Gonzalez.
While the rest of the league spent just £10m more than that for a combined £190m.
Jones backs Rashford
Phil Jones has backed Marcus Rashford to success at Aston Villa following his departure from Manchester United.
Speaking on the Football News Show, he said: “If they [Man Utd] really evaluate the situation, I think they’re disappointed in the performances, he’s not played a lot over the last 18 months, for one reason or another.
“He’s a Manchester United boy, he knows the club inside and out. He loves playing for the club, he’s made that known. It’s not happened for him over the last 18 months.
“There’s a kid there who has got unbelievable amounts of talent, I can only speak personally from when I played with him at United and at England. I think he is a fantastic player, who needs a bit of love, a bit of support.”
