DONALD Trump said Elon Musk has gone “completely ‘off the rails'” after the Tesla CEO announced he was launching a new political party.

It comes after Musk revealed on X that he’s formed the America Party – in a bid to shake up the Republican-Democrat two-party system.

Trump slammed Musk’s launch of the America Party, taking to his social media platform Truth Social to argue that third political parties historically fail in the US and only bring “disruption and chaos”.

He wrote: “He [Musk] even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – The System seems not designed for them.”

“The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds!”

It’s unclear whether the party has been formally registered with US election authorities.

Even if Musk wanted to run for president, he wouldn’t be eligible under the US Constitution.

Only “natural born citizens” can hold the office, meaning those born in the US – but Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa.

Musk posted a poll on his social media platform X on Friday, asking whether people “want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system” that has dominated US politics for two centuries.

The yes-or-no survey got more than 1.2 million responses.

Over 65 percent of those polled said “yes”, prompting him to announce the America Party in a post on X on Saturday.

Musk declared: “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!”

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he wrote.

Alongside slamming the proposed America Party, Trump fired off a series of other attacks on Musk in his Truth Social post.

He wrote that Musk had gone “completely ‘off the rails’, essentially becoming a train wreck over the past five weeks”.

He also claimed Musk opposed the “Big, Beautiful Bill” because it eliminates the “ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate”, which would have “forced” people to buy electric cars.

At the end of his post, Trump claimed Musk had pushed for a close friend – a “blue-blooded Democrat”, he noted – to lead NASA.

Trump called this “inappropriate”, suggesting a conflict of interest given Musk’s own space business, SpaceX.

This follows a massive fallout between the US president and the world’s richest man over the new budget law.

Musk has claimed the “Big, Beautiful Bill” – which Trump signed into law on Independence Day – would bankrupt the US.

The bill promises multi-trillion dollar tax breaks, increased defence spending and funding for Trump’s mass deportations of undocumented migrants.

Musk, who campaigned to reduce the national debt, said in early June: “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.

“Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.

“It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5trillion and burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.

“Congress is making America bankrupt.”

Musk’s attack on the bill – which kicked off the messy feud between the pair – came just days after he stepped down as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
