From Next June 27Xiaomi smartphones will receive their latest update. After this date, they will no longer have access to any official support, whether updates to the Android operating system or safety fixes. These are mainly phones in the Poco and Redmi ranges, including recent models that have been launched between May and September 2022.
Here is the list of the apparatus concerned:
- Redmi Note 11T Pro+
- Redmi Note 11T Pro
- Redmi K50i
- Redmi K40S
- Poco X4 GT
- Little F4
- Little C40
Among this list of seven phones, only two models (the Redmi K50i and Redmi K40S) were not distributed in France. The others, whose Redmi Note, are part of one of the most popular ranges of the Chinese brand. It is important to note that all these smartphones will remain functional, but they will no longer be protected or improved by the manufacturer.
Most of these devices have already received their April 2025 update and should still benefit from May and June updates before the end of the support. They will end their update cycle with Hyperos 1 based on Android 14an interface that has made significant improvements. Contrary to what seemed to be planned initially, several of these models would not go by Hyper OS 2.0. As it stands, there is no immediate or emergency danger to replace a smartphone that still works perfectly. It should nevertheless be taken into account that it can be exposed in the event of a flaw, although the manufacturer can still deploy an emergency correction in the event of a major problem.
A device that no longer benefits from updates can also encounter problems with new applications. In the short term, however, this remains very unlikely.
From June 2025, the rules will change for smartphone manufacturers
This situation highlights the importance of taking an interest in the update policy when buying a new device. It may be frustrating to see that a device purchased three years ago, or less, will no longer receive updates. Fortunately, the context is evolving in Europe. The European Union is preparing to oblige smartphones manufacturers to offer a minimum of five years of updatesand this new regulations will come into force on June 20.
