WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event: John Cena’s Final Match, predictions and storylines

  • Tag Team Match: AJ Styles & Dragon Lee vs. Je’Von Evans & Leon Slater
  • Singles Match: Cody Rhodes vs. Oba Femi
  • Singles Match: Bayley vs. Sol Ruca
  • Singles Match: John Cena vs. Gunther

From Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena, WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event: John Cena’s Final Match is certainly one for the history books, marking the last match of John Cena’s legendary career.

With Cena having announced last year that 2025 would be his last as an active in-ring performer, the countdown has been on throughout the past 12 months and more on the career of one of the greatest to ever do it. And across from the record-setting 17-time World Champion, it’s Gunther, one of the very best in the world today, and somebody who’s very much looking to send Cena into retirement with a loss. Will the Ring General succeed, or has Cena got one last big performance in him to overcome the odds? Either way, it’s guaranteed to be an emotional night in Washington, whether Cena wins or loses.

Given how John Cena has so often been somebody who looks to give back to the pro wrestling business, it’s no surprise to hear that he himself pushed for this WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event to serve as a showcase for some of the stars of tomorrow, as it was reportedly Cena’s idea to have this edition of SNME feature top WWE names facing off against certain up-and-comers in exhibition bouts.

On that front, WWE Champion Cody Rhodes finds himself having to deal with the formidable presence of NXT Champion Oba Femi, with the Ruler of NXT having earned himself this spot after defeating Ricky Saints at NXT Deadline last weekend. While no titles are on the line here, the American Nightmare will definitely be up against it, as he faces a powerhouse who many are already tipping to be a future WrestleMania headliner.

Elsewhere, NXT’s Sol Ruca gets the chance to test herself against former five-time Women’s Champion Bayley in what should be an excellent match. Bayley has long been one of the best, most consistent wrestlers in the business, some would say the heartbeat of the WWE women’s division, and, much like Oba Femi, Sol Ruca is a hugely promising talent who many see big things for in the coming years.

Round out what is currently a four-match card for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, and a match only announced days before SNME, WWE World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee have the task of dealing with NXT’s Je’Von Evans and TNA X Division Champion Leon Slater in a match that has all the potential to steal the entire show. Styles is a revolutionary, a game-changer, a trailblazer who is one of the greatest high-flyers of all-time; Dragon Lee, when afforded the chance, is one of the greatest high-flyers of today; and the ridiculously talented 21-year-old duo of Evans and Slater are already making major waves in the industry, with the pair’s electric, energetic style forever wowing whenever they step between the ropes.

It may well be that another match or two is added before bell time gets here on Saturday, but if not, the four advertised matches all have so much intrigue to them, as John Cena looks to go out with a bang, be that in his own performance or in giving others the opportunity to grab the spotlight.
